Ambiance label

Political slogan VPolitical Slogans. Political slogans are as important here as in any other country. The slogan of the current administration — seen plastered on billboards and broadcast constantly on the radio -- is, “Acción, honestidad, primero los pobres” (Action. Honesty. The Poor Come First.) New political candidates tout slogans that usually have some reference to “standing with the people” or being the “People’s Choice.” One provocative bright blue sign, stenciled on rocks and walls along the North-South highway, simply proclaims the name “Jesus”.

Weather lightning iconRainy Season.
What a difference just two months makes! Substituting heat and dust, we now often have gray skies, wind, and afternoon and evening rains. Some nights bring thunder, lightning, and torrential tropical downpours. Temperatures stay in the enjoyable 70’s range.

Ambulance iconConvalescence update. The larger and recalcitrant surgical incision finally closed. I had a check-up and was told “not yet” to travel to the communities, and got assigned to 5 more weeks of physiotherapy.  Last week I could walk sans crutch and limp so, thrilled, walked too much, and am now dealing with a huge setback. *sigh*

Vehicle iconVehicle update. So far in shopping for a program vehicle, the only cars I’ve found are (a) the type I need, but 20 years old (the age-range I look for are still too good to sell, I guess…) or (b) too big and heavy. Suddenly car lots offer shoulder-to-shoulder SUVs… predictable with the weekly rise in gas prices.

"Pray…the owner of the harvest will send out workers to gather in his harvest.”  --Luke 10:2

The healthcare volunteers not only remembered the contents of our last workshop, but reported applying their new knowledge with amazing results. Affecting the work pool: one worker died this month; two others are seriously ill.

Children ecstasy

In leisure moments I made a playhouse out of a cardboard box for the children of our Arco Iris Daycare Center in the extremely poor Villanueva neighbourhood. The kids—here checking it out—reacted with delight and wild enthusiasm!

ICLH national Office Staff: Left, General Secretary Rolando Ortez; center, program manager Rubí Flores; right, Administrator Linda (“Milly”) Pérez.

Inadequate staffing + overwork are felling ICLH staff. Eva is in the hospital more than out; Herminio has a chronic intestinal problem. Though sick for over a month, Rubí keeps pushing. Suyapa Ordóñez, who pastors one congregation while administering the daycare center, is also ill. Please pray!
