The rains of May  The eagerly-awaited “winter” (what the Wet Season is called—even though the temperature is hot and now also humid) rains began to show up a bit early. Only three weeks of occasional rain have encouraged the sere, blackened land to show the beginnings of Irish-green lushness.

Mothers’ Day Disappointment reigned when daughter Keitlyn’s flight from Mexico was cancelled and she didn’t come for Mothers’ Day as planned. But she made it the next week. Though I dragged her with me to work events, we managed to sneak in some fun time alone (below) in the few days she was in Honduras before leaving for archaeology field school in Belize.

Workshop
“Our best, most fruitful workshop ever:” the result of lots of joint ICLH/Minnesota planning and work.
The leader led worship smoothly, the lectors read the lessons, prayers were crafted to the theme of the day, and the preacher’s sermon was moving. It was your typical Lutheran service. So what had us so excited? All those skills  were  newly
acquired at the national Theological-Liturgical Training held near La Ceiba for leaders of worshipping communities, with the support of our Minnesota Partners team. The training featured in-depth study of the Bible passages for Pentecost and hands-on practical workshops. Back in Tegus there was a Homiletics Workshop for pastors and preachers.

One woman walked for three hours with her little daughter -- and carrying her baby (both in photo at right) -- from her home to the paved road. There she caught a bus to the 2+ day ethics workshop I led for SEFCA, a cooperative with which ICLH is allied. Others of the campesinos had an hour or two trek. All brought eagerness to learn and a willingness to try strange things (see the Team-Building strategy, above right!)
